Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
Effective date: July 15, 2026 · Applies to stormtracking.com and its embedded widget
Safety first: StormTracking is an informational aggregator and is not an official source of weather warnings. For decisions that could affect life or property, always rely on weather.gov, hurricanes.gov, local authorities, and official emergency-alert channels (Wireless Emergency Alerts, NOAA Weather Radio).
Terms of Use
1. Acceptance
By accessing or using stormtracking.com, its data feeds, or its embeddable widget (together, the “Site”), you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy below. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
2. Informational purpose only — no warranty
The Site republishes and visualizes publicly available weather data produced by third parties, principally the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service (NWS), and the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The Site adds no forecasting of its own.
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, TIMELINESS, COMPLETENESS, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. Weather data may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, or wrong; maps and alert boundaries are approximations; automated refresh can fail without notice.
3. No emergency, professional, or life-safety service
The Site is not an emergency notification service and must not be used as one. You are solely responsible for monitoring official warnings for your location and for all decisions you make. Nothing on the Site constitutes professional, meteorological, safety, or evacuation advice.
4. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SITE'S OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF LIFE, PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, LOSS OF DATA, OR LOSS OF PROFITS, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SITE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IF, NOTWITHSTANDING THE FOREGOING, LIABILITY IS FOUND, TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those jurisdictions liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.
5. Acceptable use
- Do not interfere with, disrupt, or place unreasonable load on the Site or its data endpoints.
- Do not misrepresent the Site's content as official government warnings, or alter it in ways that could mislead others about weather hazards.
- Do not use the Site in any manner that violates applicable law.
6. Widget & linking license
You may embed the provided widget and link to the Site free of charge, provided the widget is not modified, obscured, or presented in a misleading context. This license is revocable at any time. The widget loads content from stormtracking.com and is subject to these Terms.
7. Intellectual property
Underlying weather data originates from U.S. government sources and is in the public domain. The Site's design, code, text, and generated imagery are © the Site's operator. Map tiles and imagery are provided by third parties (OpenStreetMap contributors, CARTO, NASA GIBS, Iowa Environmental Mesonet) under their own licenses and attribution requirements.
8. Third-party services and links
The Site loads map tiles, fonts, and libraries from third-party services and links to external sites (including social-sharing platforms). Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies; the Site's operator is not responsible for them.
9. Changes; termination
The Site may change, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time without notice. These Terms may be updated by posting a revised version at this URL with a new effective date; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of the operator's residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts of that state, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Any claim must be filed within one (1) year after it arises or be permanently barred.
11. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
Privacy Policy
What we collect (very little)
- No accounts, no registration. The Site does not ask for or store your name, email, or any profile information.
- No cookies set by us. No analytics. No advertising trackers.
- Saved alert areas stay in your browser. The “My alert areas” feature stores your chosen states in your browser's localStorage only. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to the Site's servers. Clearing your browser storage removes it.
- Standard server logs. Like nearly every website, the web server records access logs (IP address, user-agent, requested URL, timestamp) used solely for security, abuse prevention, and operations. Logs are retained for a limited period and are not sold or shared for marketing.
Third-party requests your browser makes
To render the page, your browser fetches resources directly from third parties, which necessarily see your IP address and user-agent: map tiles (CARTO / OpenStreetMap), satellite imagery (NASA GIBS), radar tiles (Iowa Environmental Mesonet), fonts (Google Fonts), and the Leaflet library (unpkg CDN). Weather data itself is served from stormtracking.com. If you click a share button, the destination platform (Facebook, X, Reddit, Bluesky, etc.) receives the shared URL and applies its own privacy policy.
Your choices & rights
- The Site is usable without providing any personal information.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information (California CCPA: no “sale” or “sharing”).
- We do not respond differently to Do-Not-Track signals because we do not track users.
- EU/UK visitors: the minimal processing described above rests on legitimate interest (security and operation of the Site). Contact us to exercise applicable rights.
Children
The Site is a general-audience informational service, is not directed at children under 13, and knowingly collects no personal information from anyone, including children (COPPA).
Security & changes
The Site is served over HTTPS. This policy may be updated by posting a revised version here with a new effective date.
